This was the big week in IPL 2020 as this was the week when playoff would kick start. There were 2 matches which was yet to be played. RCb faced DC and winner of this match would face MI in first play off. RCB lost the toss again and were into bat. Padikkal shined again with the bat. He and Virat had 57 run stand after Philippe was dismissed early on for 12 by Rabada. Virat was dismissed by in form Ashwin for 29. ABD and Padikkal took RCB past 100. Post his 50, Nortje castled Padikkal. RCB 112-4 in 16 overs. RCb reached 145-4 with 8 balls to spare. RCB looked good to reach 165 plus which was a good score on this pitch. But RCb lost track and just managed 7-3 in that last 8 balls. Though Siraj castled Shaw early on, Rahane and Dhawan ensured DC were the lone winner of the match with 88 run stand. Shahbaz’s spell in the middle helped RCB slow DC down which was crucial as RCB had to ensure DC don’t win inside 17.3 overs which would have put  nrr of bangalore team behind KKR. DC eventually won with 1 over to spare. DC qualified as top 2 team . RCb ensured they will reach playoff for the first time in 4 years. In final league match, MI fielded a weak side. They rested Boult, Bumrah and Hardik. MI never got going while batting first. Pollard’s late hitting ensured they had a total to defend (150 target). With no Boult and Bumrah, Warner and Saha made merry. Both hit fifties to take SRH to playoff for 5th time in a row. They are on a roll with 3 wins in a row. Only time would tell if MI would rue the chance of knocking SRH out of IPL as RSH are the only team in playoff who look like beating MI in current form.

In first playoff, DC put MI to bat after winning the toss. Chasing against MI is always a tough task and especially in playoff.  Since DC lost to MI setting target in last 2 matches, they wanted to try chasing. Ashwin gave DC a great start when he trapped MI captain for golden duck. Rohit’s form ahs been poor in this IPL. That has hardly been noticed since his team have been in rich vein of form. Shreyas did the mistake of immediately removing Ashwin from the attack. He wanted to preserve Ashwin for Pollard. Quinton cut loose. He and Surya had 63 run stand to set platform for MI. Ishan Kishan’s 30 ball 55 and Hardik’s 14 ball 37 helped MI to a grand total of 200-5. MI scored 78 runs in last 5 overs. Their engine of Pollard-Krunal-Hardik have been in this IPL. One of them definitely click. Ishan’s form has added to their power. Boult gave MI dream start when dismissed Shaw and Rahane in first double wicket maiden. Bumrah made it 0-3 when castled Dhawan in ball of IPL 2020. Though Stoinis tried hard, DC lost by  a huge margin of 57 runs. MI have played a league above other teams when full strong team is selected.

In eliminator, SRH captain won the toss for 5th straight time and put RCB to bat without any hesitation. RCB brought back Zampa, Moeen and Saini. Virat opened with Padikkal. Intent was good. But he was a tad unlucky when Holder dismissed him caught behind down the leg side. Holder made it 15-2 for RCB when he dismissed Padikkal. Holder was not bowling great but it was his day as whatever he touched turned to gold. ABD and Finch gave RCB some momentum 41 run stand. Finch was finding it tough to time in the ball in slow pitch conditions. RCB won 6 of first 10 matches when pitches were playing a bit true. When pitches were turning a bit slow, they started losing touch. Rashid and Nadeem were tough to hit again. Nadeem dismissed Finch for 32. RCB 56-3. Moeen was shocking found runout of a ridiculous run of a freehit ball. That summed up RCB. They allowed nerves to get better of them. A bit of bad luck too. ABD’s 43 ball 56 helped RCB to 131. RCB could have scored 140 plus had ABD played till the end. Natarajan whose wife delivered a baby boy early in day bowled a beauty to castle ABD.  That hurt RCB. RCB’s bowling ahs not been too bad this season. Their lack of fire power in middle order has been prime reason. Dube, Gurukeerat or Moeen have hardly made any contributions.  Siraj gave RCB a good start when dismissed Goswami for duck. SRH 2-1. Warner and Manish took the attack to RCB in style. Against the run of play, Siraj dismissed Warner for 17. SRH 43-2 in 6th over. It was a 50-50 decision. It was not conclusive whether ball touched the pant or glove. Since there was spike, he gave the decision in favor of RCB. RCB pulled back in good fashion post that. From 43-1, SRH were reduced to 67-4. Zampa bowled a dream spell of 1-12 . Chahal bowled well too. 45 runs was needed of last 30 balls.  It came down to 28 needed 18 balls.  RCB needed a wicket and almost had one. Williamson hit a full toss towards square leg. Padikkal caught it but in the process of balancing near boundary threw the ball inside. That was another slice of luck which SRH had. Holder and Williamson hit a few balls in the air but fell into vacant land. RCB did well to take match to last over when 9 runs was needed. After single and dot ball, RCB hopes raised but Holder killed all hopes by smashing 2 crisp boundaries. Williamson’s classy but luck filled 50 and 24 by Holder took SRH to victory. RCB are knocked out. Their bating and mainly middle and lower order was v ordinary. That was tested in all last 5 matches and they failed each time. Bowlers did well to take RCB to playoffs. Batsmen didn’t come to party. Padikkal, Chahal, Sundar and ABD were class. Virat did well in first 10 matches but lost touch later on. SRH will face DC in final playoff before finals. DC beat SRH in last year’s playoff. SRH have the form and slice of luck too to hammer DC to setup mouth watering finals with MI.

He would face Zverev in SF who knocked out Wawrinka 6-3 7-6. In other SF Medvevev would clash with Raonic. Medvedev beat Schwartzman in straight sets and Raonic got the better of Humbert in 3 set thriller.

In champions league, Barca beat Dynamo 2-1. Juventus beat Ferencvaros 4-1. ManU were stunned 1-2 by rookies Istanbul Basaksehir. Liverpool and Chelsea won comfortably too. ManCity stunned Olympiacos 3-0. Real Madrid beat Inter Milan 3-2 in a thriller.
